01Which wind direction works at Strand Horst

Wind from the northwest blows straight onto the beach. Safe is wind from southwest (231°) through northwest to northeast (41°).

Side-onshore 245° to 295° and 335° to 25°: the best angle: you ride back and forth easily and the wind pushes you back to the sand.
Straight onshore 295° to 335°: safe, you always wash up on the beach, but getting away from the shore takes effort.
Side-shore 25° to 41° and 231° to 245°: good to ride, but you do not drift back by yourself; stay close to the shore.
Offshore 41° to 231°: the wind blows you out to sea; Kitewind does not count these hours as a session.

Water	Flat, fresh inland water. The wind can be gusty because of the trees on the shore.
Depth	In the whole kite zone the water is knee- to hip-deep. Further out lies the shipping channel. It is deep and cargo ships use it. Stay away from the small marina: it is deep there. In winter the water level is lower. You then walk further into the water.
Current	No waves and no current.
Bottom and beach	Bottom of muddy sand with weed. In summer a lot of weed floats around, which can get caught in your lines. You rig up on grass. Launch your kite from the water. On the shore, trees and bushes make the wind unsteady. Watch out for trees, bins and buildings on the grass field.
Zones	Kite only inside the yellow buoys. The kite area lies south-west of Telstar. Kiters may not enter the windsurf area. Never in the shipping channel. It is marked with buoys. The site is open all year round, from sunrise to sunset. Teaching is only allowed with permission from Leisurelands.
Level	Suitable for beginners. You can stand almost everywhere. A popular spot.
Parking and facilities	Paid parking. Toilets and showers. The toilets are often closed out of season. Lessons, rental and advice at Telstar Surfschool on the beach. Food and drinks at Telstar and at Beachclub Drift.
