01Which wind direction works at Medemblik
Wind from the east-northeast blows straight onto the beach. Safe is wind from north-northwest (333°) through east-northeast to southeast (143°).
- Side-onshore 80° to 130° and 350° to 40°: the best angle: you ride back and forth easily and the wind pushes you back to the sand.
- Straight onshore 40° to 80°: safe, you always wash up on the beach, but getting away from the shore takes effort.
- Side-shore 130° to 143° and 333° to 350°: good to ride, but you do not drift back by yourself; stay close to the shore.
- Offshore 143° to 333°: the wind blows you out to sea; Kitewind does not count these hours as a session.
Everything outside that is offshore: the wind blows you out to sea. Why that is the biggest risk.

| Depth | Shallow up to as much as 150 metres from the shore. From 60 metres from the shore it gets deeper. Behind the sandbanks it is deep enough to foil. |
| Bottom and beach | The bottom is covered in shells, water shoes are no luxury. The launch spot is cramped, with trees along the edge, and the spot fills up quickly. |
| Zones | Ride in the kite zone marked with yellow buoys. No kiting at the harbour (left) and not at the nature reserve (right). Kitesurfing at Andijk, east of Medemblik, is banned. |
| Level | Beginners and advanced kiters. If you are more experienced, tack upwind to behind the sandbanks and so give beginners room. |
