01Which wind direction works at Lauwersoog

Wind from the north-northeast blows straight onto the beach. Safe is wind from northwest (304°) through north to east-northeast (63°).

Side-onshore 50° to 63° and 320° to 10°: the best angle: you ride back and forth easily and the wind pushes you back to the sand.
Straight onshore 10° to 50°: safe, you always wash up on the beach, but getting away from the shore takes effort.
Side-shore 304° to 320°: good to ride, but you do not drift back by yourself; stay close to the shore.
Offshore 63° to 304°: the wind blows you out to sea; Kitewind does not count these hours as a session.

Everything outside that is offshore: the wind blows you out to sea. Why that is the biggest risk.

Water	Shallow Wadden Sea, right behind the sea dyke. The NKV calls the Wadden Sea shallow here.
Depth	You can only kite from 2 hours before to 2 hours after high tide. Sometimes you have to walk a long way to reach enough water.
Current	Kite school Antix names current as one reason the spots at Lauwersoog are less suitable for beginners.
Bottom and beach	There are sharp stones under water: wear surf shoes. There may be mussel beds. A row of small posts runs at right angles to the dyke about 40 metres into the water; a large arrow on the sea dyke points them out. The posts are not always visible; at high tide a small yellow buoy marks them. There are fences on the dyke. You rig up on grass, with little room.
Zones	On the Wadden Sea you may only kite in areas designated by Rijkswaterstaat; here that is Hoek van de Bant. It is allowed all year round, during the day. Yellow buoys and markers with 'KITE' mark the corners; stay inside them. Anyone who disturbs birds or seals breaks the nature protection law, even inside the area. Read the signs at the spot.
Level	35 Knots says it is not a spot for beginners. Kite school Antix finds it less suitable for beginners, because of differences in depth, obstacles and current. The NKV spot map does say 'beginner'.
Parking and facilities	Free parking on the Bantswei near Anjum. There is food and drink.
